"Generation Joshua: Training Our Students to Serve"
Fall 2004

Homeschool success. How is this defined? Achievement test scores. Awards earned. College Scholarships. Godly Character. Drug-free. Alcohol-free. Purity intact… While all of these are good and profitable endeavors, they simply are not the final measure of success for home education. We will know that homeschooling has been successful when we see homeschooled adults mature into leaders who will positively impact America, when we see real-life victories in the lives of our children, and our grandchildren.

Is it possible that someday our children could find themselves in positions of influence and power where their endeavors could achieve the reversal of Roe v. Wade, stop same-sex marriage or usher in the next Great Awakening? Absolutely! They have unique qualifications and credentials. Idle dreaming will not achieve these lofty results. They will happen only through hard work, wise planning and much earnest prayer.

How would a homeschool parent set about creating an educational seed-bed that could produce Christian Statesmen like the ones who masterminded the founding of our nation and who wrote an enduring constitution? They'd have to know how to seek, find and use the best tools for the job at hand.

Finding the right tool has recently become a whole lot easier! Earlier this year, HSLDA introduced a new division called Generation Joshua. The Moses generation (ours) cried out, “Let my children go," to the Pharaoh's of our day who were keeping them enslaved in the one-size-fits-all mentality of the public school classroom. We wandered through the wilderness as we culled through whatever textbooks we could find and we fed on the daily manna of God's Word. The Joshua generation is poised on the banks of the river, ready to cross over into the Promised Land. They've got many battles ahead to fight. Will they be ready?

Generation Joshua includes a two-fold civics curriculum, an on-line curriculum with classes like, The Founding Fathers, Campaign School, Constitutional Law, and a Rotating Lecturer Series, with notable instructors, and a civics textbook to be released next spring. Students who are enrolled in Generation Joshua will have opportunities to participate in church-based voter registration drives, and Student Action Teams that will help with the campaigns of pro-family candidates, putting feet to their civics lessons.

Sound too good to be true? Just wait, it gets better! A one-year membership to Generation Joshua is only $10 per student for HSLDA members. Amazing! Membership is aimed at 14-19 year olds, but anyone (including adults) are more than welcome to join. Your students may register at www.generationjoshua.org.

The Sleeping Giant has been roused. A righteous army is being raised up and trained. They're starting to march, and it won't be long until we start to see some walls come tumbling down!

Linda and her husband, Paul, serve on the CHOIS board of directors. They have homeschooled their 4 children for 14 years, in Boise, Idaho.
