“Our teens will enjoy a variety of speakers and hands-on interactive workshops this year.”
Inquiry and Motion Workshop—Homeschool Institute of Science
The events we hold and resources we promote are for the purpose of encouraging and affirming family learning and home education, to inspire and build up the next generation of scientists and engineers, to return science to its proper role of supporting a Christian worldview rather than tearing it down. HIS, Inc. is made up of a group of like-minded Christians who value exploring and discovering Creation. We love the STEM* disciplines for what they reveal about the universe and for what they reveal about our Creator. Whether studying stream ecology or electromagnetism, we stand in awe of the awesome creative power of God.
Fight Back and Win Against the Terror of Public Speaking—Barry Peters and Katie Cox
Public speaking is often listed as one of the greatest fears known to man. But it need not be so! In this workshop your student will gain skills and confidence to conquer their fear of public speaking…one small step at a time. As they are given the opportunity to practice speaking in a safe, fun, and encouraging environment, they will learn to become more effective communicators as they are given the tools to make a greater impact in the world in which they live.
The Dinosaur Hunters:
This is a fascinating look at how human nature has driven the search and discovery of dinosaur fossils. We will look at some of the intriguing people who have been driven to find these creatures, and the strange directions they took because of their world views.
Business Etiquette: In a Dog-Eat-Dog World, You’d Better Know Which Fork to Use!
You know your worth in Christ. You have integrity. There is also exceptional value to a person who has good manners, critical business etiquette and social graces. Refine those skills, stand head and shoulders above the rest and find favor with man, too. God presents opportunities which prepare us for some unexpected moment, some divine intervention, for “such a time as this.”
Living on Borrowed Time: The Nine Practices of the Proactive Parent—Steve Scheibner
As a pilot for American Airlines, Steve was very close to the events of 9/11. He was originally scheduled to be the co-pilot on AA Flight 11, the first flight to be hijacked on Sept. 11th, 2001. Through an extraordinary set of divine circumstances Steve was bumped from that flight the night before by a moresenior pilot. Now, he tells his deeply moving story of God’s providence on that terrible day in our history. Come discover why God gave Steve a second chance and now uses him to teach parents all around the world to parent with purpose and urgency as he introduces you to The Nine Practices of The Proactive Parent.
